The Wilderness of Eden (C & P McMahon 1995) I walked along the beach and watched the waves slip out of reach and I wonder why I saw the serpent shrug cut the cord & pull the plug and I had to cry I flew across the air and saw the dead ones lying there on the cenotaph I heard the dolphins sing about the man who would be king and I had to laugh And the glory of the world is fading It's raining in babylon the gardens are dead There's a full moon in avalon but it's turning blood red And they killed the last unicorn and cut off it's mane So the tower of babel is rising again Here in the wilderness of Eden I sat beneath the moon and saw the birds fly south too soon on broken wings I stared beyond the stars who will get the phone on mars when saturn rings I hailed a passing whale I asked him how it felt to fail he said you should know coz dear old noah sold the ark used the cash to build a theme park there you go

I have climbed highest mountain I have run through the fields Only to be with you Only to be with you I have run I have crawled I have scaled these city walls These city walls Only to be with you But I still haven't found what I'm looking for But I still haven't found what I'm looking for I have kissed honey lips Felt the healing in her fingertips It burned like fire This burning desire I have spoke with the tongue of angels I have held the hand of a devil It was warm in the night I was cold as a stone But I still haven't found what I'm looking for But I still haven't found what I'm looking for {SOLO} I believe in the kingdom come When all the colours will bleed into one Bleed into one yes I'm still running You broke the bonds and you loosed the chains carried the cross Of my shame Of my shame You know I believed it But I still haven't found what I'm looking for But I still haven't found what I'm looking for But I still haven't found what I'm looking for But I still haven't found what I'm looking for...

One Day 05:03
One Day (Paul McMahon) Every answer begs another dozen questions Living in this present tense All the secret signs we use for our protection They don't seem to make much sense Sometimes it gets so dark in here Nothing certain nothing ever clear It's hard for fools like us to keep believing One day the walls around us will all come down One day the light will shine on us all The restless heart will be at peace The chains that bind us all will be released I hope that it isn't too late I've tried hard but I can't understand the reasons Please try to make it clear Why we carry on a search for other Edens When everything we need is here Let the unknown soldier sleep tonight Let him know there's no one left to fight In this place for fools like us who keep believing One day the walls around us will all come down One day the light will shine on us all The restless heart will be at peace The chains that bind us all will be released I hope that it isn't too late These days everything I do feels wrong I'd give anything to feel that I belong In the place for fools like us who keep believing One day the walls around us will all come down One day the light will shine on us all The restless heart will be at peace The chains that bind us all will be released I hope that it isn't too late

Well I don't care if I get arrested, 'Cos tonight they'll need more than a ball and chain, I don't care who's interested, I'm coming into town just the same. I've been feeling low, I've been feeling blue, I think I need a little beer or two, Be my friend, tell me where the place is, Where the whiskey flows and the dices just roll along? My baby's done me wrong you must have guessed it, My heart's so low I think it must be told, That I don't wanna know where east or west is, 'Cos pretty soon I won't feel the cold. When I'm walking down mainstreet, feeling no pain, Along comes a cop, he can take my name, And explain to me what a federal case is, I'm mixing the barley with the grape again. Bright city lights, make me feel alright, I know right from wrong but tomorrow never comes. I don't care if I get investigated, And the city fathers they all black my name. I'm pretty sure that you can smell the traces, For tomorrow morning, I'll take all the blame. I've been feeling bad and feeling blue, I think I need a little whiskey or two, Tonight I'll sleep on a walking-cane. Bright city lights, make me feel all right, I know right from wrong but tomorrow never comes. I don't care if I get arrested, Cause tonight they'll need more than a ball and chain. I don't care who's interested, I'm coming into town just the same, I've been feeling alone and I've been feeling blue. I think I need a little drink or two. Hey, be my friend, tell me where the place is, Where the whiskey flows and the dices just rolls along.

Post office clerks put up signs saying 'position closed' And secretaries turn off typewriters and put on their coats And janitors padlock the gates For security guards to patrol And bachelors phone up their friends for a drink While the married ones turn on a chat show And they'll all be lonely tonight and lonely tomorrow Gentlemen time please, you know we can't serve anymore Now the traffic lights change to stop, when there's nothing to go And by five o'clock everything's dead And every third car is a cab And ignorant people sleep in their beds Like the doped white mice in the college lab And nothing ever happens, nothing happens at all The needle returns to the start of the song And we all sing along like before And we'll all be lonely tonight and lonely tomorrow Telephone exchanges click while there's nobody there The Martians could land in the car park and no one would care Closed-circuit cameras in department stores Shoot the same movie every day And the stars of these films neither die nor get killed Just survive constant action replay And nothing ever happens, nothing happens at all The needle returns to the start of the song And we all sing along like before And we'll all be lonely tonight and lonely tomorrow {BREAK} And bill hoardings advertise products that nobody needs While "Angry from Manchester" writes to complain about All the repeats on TV Computer terminals report some gains in the values of copper and tin While American businessmen snap up Van Goghs For the price of a hospital wing And nothing ever happens, nothing happens at all The needle returns to the start of the song And we all sing along like before And nothing ever happens, nothing happens at all They'll burn down the synagogues at six o'clock And we'll all go along like before And we'll all be lonely tonight and lonely tomorrow

Fallen Leaves (by Paul Chisnell, Paul McMahon, Chris McMahon & Rob Heeley) Leaves long since fallen have been blown into the roadside Their veins bleached a blatant silver against the reds and golds of autumn By winter's frosty hand Fallen Leaves The warm room beckons shuttered windows blazing fires Forlorn we shelter against the late of glowring gales Laughing in glee as it hesitates and destroys the delicate web Woven by the summers evening in my head Fallen Leaves A glass of cider sitting on the warm earth Dust of countless feet treading on towards the autumn Where the leaves have long since fallen Fallen Leaves

The devil went down to Georgia He was looking for a soul to steal He was in a bind cause he was way behind   And he was willing to make a deal When he came across this young man Sawing on a fiddle and playing it hot And the devil jumped up on a hickory stump And said, "Boy" let me tell you what I guess you didn't know it But I'm a fiddle player too And if you'd care to take a dare I'll make a bet with you Now you played pretty good fiddle, boy But give the devil his due I bet a fiddle of gold against your soul Cause I think I'm better than you The boy said "My name's Johnny And it might be a sin But I'll take you bet, your gonna regret Cause I'm the best that's ever been" Johnny rosin up your bow And play your fiddle hard Cause hell's broke loose in Georgia And the devil deals the cards And if you win You get this shiny fiddle made of gold But if you lose, the devil gets your soul The devil opened up his case And he said "I'll start this show" And fire flew from his finger tips As he rosined up his bow And he pulled the bow across the strings And it made a evil hiss Then a band of demons joined in And it sounded something like this When the devil finished Johnny said Well you're, pretty good old son But sit down in that chair right there And let me show you how it's done Fire on the mountain run boys run Devils in the house at the rising sun chicken in the bread pan picking out dough Granny does your dog bite no-child-no The devil bowed his head Because he knew that he'd been beat And he laid that golden fiddle On the ground at Johnny's feet Johnny said "Devil just come on back If you ever want to try again I done told you once, you son of a bitch I'm the best that's ever been" he played
