about

One from Paul Pearson's extensive repertoire of songs, and one that I indulge in the gentle art of 'Bouzouki shredding'. For this & 'You Rattle Me' we abandoned my usual layering instruments one at a time recording technique & all played together in the studio, just adding solos & tidying up vocals later. This gives a much more natural & organic, if slightly less clean sound. Bob Dylan would probably approve! As a tribute to the best know version of this song I added organ, including Alan Price's Am9 chord at the end.

lyrics

There is a house in New Orleans They call the Rising Sun
And it's been the ruin of many a poor boy And God, I know I'm one

My mother was a tailor She sewed my new blue jeans
My father was a gambling man Down in New Orleans

Now the only thing a gambler needs Is a suitcase and trunk
And the only time he's satisfied Is when he's on a drunk

Go tell my baby sister Not to do what I have done
Spend your lives in fear and misery In the House of the Rising Sun

Well, I got one foot on the platform The other foot on the train
I'm goin' back to New Orleans To wear that ball and chain

Well, there is a house in New Orleans They call the Rising Sun
And it's been the ruin of many a poor boy And God, I know I'm one
